Saboten Con 2018 (Review)

  • Saboten Con has come and gone so let me tell you what my experience was with this amazing anime con in Phoenix, AZ. So this year I decided to take my youngest daughter so that she can see all her favorite anime characters. She also decided to do her first official cosplay as Todoroki and she enjoyed herself so much. So let me tell you a little bit about Saboten Con just in case you have never gone.

Saboten Con is an American anime convention held in Phoenix, Arizona and organized by Monkey Paw Entertainment. The convention is held on Labor Day weekend and lasts for 4 days (Fri-Mon). It is currently hosted at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix. Saboten Con is the largest anime convention in Arizona with attendance reaching 6,745 (unique) / 20,983 (turnstile) for the 2015 event.

My daughter Alexa and I started with the vendor hall upstairs. This con is held in the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Phoenix and you start by getting your passes downstairs but then move up for the real goodness. So on the second floor, they had a gaming area to play all forms of games brought to you by "www.azhpgaming.com" which is an amazing company that brings all your gaming needs to all forms of cons. On the second floor, we did see so many cosplayers and they had all forms of entertainment from panels and stage shows going on.

Sabo has a very atmospheric feel to it per it being inside of a hotel. So instead of walking a huge floor at a normal con you instead of walking three different floors for centric type things you like to do. So after walking the second floor for a little we then moved up to the third floor where they had the vendor hall and workshops for people to create things. They also had most of there talent over here from music stars to cosplayers and more. Inside the vendor hall had so many things to buy from art, figurines and all forms of talented crafters that had an array of anime delights.

The vendor hall was where my daughter wanted to hang out the most because of the ease of taking photos with some of her favorite anime characters. All the cosplayers were very happy to take pictures and pose. I would have to say that Sabo has the most unique cosplays I see from all the cons I go to. It was nice to see so many of my favorite characters walking around. So many passionate anime fans and crafters can be seen throughout this con. Sabo definitely has the most unique feel of any con I go to. For that reason alone it keeps me coming back for more.

Unfortionly we only went one day per Saboten not responding to our media badge applications. And because of that, I can't show you the whole experience of this con. But even with that mishap, I can truly say that I fully recommend Saboten Con and even if you're not an anime fan this con has a lot to do.  So coming from this Ugeek Saboten Con gets the UGeek Club seal of approval. Thank you ugeeks for joining me on my geeky journey and like always keep on geeking on.
