Pacific Rim: Uprising (Review)

  • Ten years have passed since the battle of the breach, former Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost makes a living by stealing and selling Jaeger parts in California. While trying to steal parts, he meets a young girl who has built her own Jaeger and they get arrested for the possession of Jaeger parts. His adoptive sister, General Secretary Mako Mori, meets with and gives Jake a choice between prison or training Jaeger recruits for the potential return of Kaiju. He agrees and finds the girl he met is to become one of his new trainees. As the movie unfolds, strange events happen and ultimately the Kaiju return.

As the movie progressed, it keeps you invested and has some good action scenes. The characters have good energy with each other and everyone is enjoyable to watch. There is a weird love interest rivalry that doesn't need to be in the movie and ultimately doesn't go anywhere either. The trainees of the Jaegers are all early teenagers, they don't spend a lot of time on them so you don't really get attached to them. The Jaegers and Kaiju are amazing, both with design and upgrades that happen as the movie goes on. There are some elements of surprise as the movie goes on that make you guess what is happening.

This movie is a lot of fun to watch. If you were a fan of the first film, you will enjoy this one just as much or more. It is fun to watch on the big screen. There is a 3D showing as well, but I don't think it's worth paying the extra for the 3D unless you REALLY enjoy big robots and monsters. To me, there isn't enough content to warrant a 3D showing when the regular movie is entertaining enough as it is. I do recommend this movie to be seen in theaters as it is a really decent action film. So go out and make a fun night of seeing this movie! Until next time, Ugeek on!
