Movie of the Year: Coco (Review)

  • A young boy, Miguel, goes to pursue his dreams after following the motto of his idol, Ernesto De La Cruz, which is "Seize the Moment." He goes to enter a contest of music on the eve of Dia de Los Muertos and ends up crossing over to the land of the dead. On his adventure to get back to the land of the living, he learns a lot about the history of his family.

This movie is amazing. You really should stop reading this review and go see it yourself. It is beautiful to look at, the story is wonderful and very relatable, and the bonding of family is strong throughout. The characters are so likable that there were a few times I got lost in the movie feeling like I was watching family and there were times I even forgot it was an animated movie as well. It definitely lives up to the hard work and dedication of the Disney Pixar team. Be warned though, this movie does tug at your heartstrings and you will get misty-eyed at points. There is a lot of good humor and it is very spot on as far as the celebration of the Day of the Dead goes.

It is highly recommended to see this movie in theaters. It is so beautiful and immersive. I honestly can say that this is the best movie I have seen all year and I look forward to seeing it again. I saw it in regular 2D but I want to see it again in 3D. So go out and see it! Also, leave a comment about what you think if you see it! Until next time, Ugeek on!
