Resident Evil: Biohazard and The Final Chapter

  • When looking at the Resident Evil franchise, overall it has been hit and miss. Certain games have been amazing, and certain movies have become one of our favorites to watch. With the two new additions to the franchise, how do they stand up?

In this Ugeek's opinion....the movie fell down the dank dark hole of disappoint as it has already decended and the game has risen to make you wish it was the movie. So let's begin!

    Resident Evil 7

Good news before the bad news...Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is well worth the money you invest in it. As short as the game is, a mere 8 hour run, it is full of wonderful terrifying moments and wtf that the game franchise is good at doing.

The game has a very good atmosphere and an involving story that pulls you in and makes you want to understand all that is going on. It is also very good with gross out factors, and plenty of horror for those who like a good scare. The only downside I have seen to the game is one of the boss fights is a bit overwhelming and you run low on ammo and health if you are not prepared. This is your only warning that if you play this, make sure you are prepared before going into what you assume is going to be a boss fight.

The only other downside to the game is the VR fails to fully immerse you. It would seem that it would be amazing after the teaser trailer/game they released for publicity that does immerse you by having you watch the surroundings after being tied on a chair. The VR itself is wonderful but you become detatched when you look around and your own character is nothing more than two forearms. If you don't mind being disembodied by seeing just two floating arms, then by all means try the VR for yourself and see. As for my opinion, it takes away from the VR if I feel that I am not actually a part of it and my character is nothing more than Thing from The Adams Family.

Overall, you should play this game. It is amazing and visually beautiful albeit disgusting and creepy. I recommend playing it highly, especially if you are a horror game fan.

Now, onto the bad news, the movie is the exact opposite of the game. While it is entertaining and has it moments of amazingness, it does not make up for the shaky cam, over use of jump scares, and obvious turn of events that happen.

Going into the movie, I admit I had expectations that it was going to fail. For the first 10 minutes of it, I was right. The jump scares were annoying and you came into the movie going...okay, what happened?  At the end of the last one, everyone was ready for a massive fight against the horde of infected and we start this one in a wasteland again.

As the movie progresses and new items come to light, you realize that even the writers stopped caring and just wrote down whatever, ignoring everything that came before.

There are so many things that they could've done to fix the movie. I would say though, that if you were watching this series of movies then you should finish it out by watching it but don't expect to be happy with all that happens. It would be decent as a stand alone-esque movie but that is my own opinion.

So, get the game, watch the movie on DVD/Blu-ray/Red Box. See for yourself how you feel about it all. Other than that, enjoy the Resident Evil franchise or pass if you are not a horror fan. Until then, Ugeek on!
